Charitable Giving

5041 is about more than just robots. With one of FIRST’s main core values being impact, we always strive to give back to our community that so graciously supports us as well as use our resources and skills to make a positive impact on the world around us.

ConCessions For the kids

During the 2024 Mini Dance Marathon hosted by West Branch Student Government as part of the University of Iowa Dance Marathon. 5041 members in Student Government partnered with the Dance Marathon Committee to host a concessions stand to raise money for pediatric cancer patients. In total we raised ~$200 split 50% between us and Dance Marathon. Although our contributions may have been relatively small, it still helped make an impact on such an important cause.

As the West Branch FLL team moved away from their EV3 sets, their were a lot of leftover sets with no use within the school district. 5041 interns from Lego League helped to create and test a Lego set to donate to our local public library as a STEM resource for kids in the area.

Sharing our resources

During the fall of 2022, 5041 and West Branch Lego League held its 7th annual LEGO drive for the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. We collected new and unopened Lego sets of varying types and sizes. In total we collected 26 boxes, which amounted to ~$608 in Legos. The Legos go to stock the hospital’s gift closet and play areas. All kids should have the opportunity to enjoy the love of building and creating regardless of their circumstances.

In 2023 5041 donated multiple Lego NXT robotics kits to 6317 Disruptive Innovation mentor Greg Smith to be used for STEM outreach and education in Kenya.
